No doubt, she does go for her regular exercisers with me, but once she is home, she would rather stay in a cozy corner and sleep. On average, adult dogs can sleep up to 12 to 14 hours a day. This totally coincide with my observation of my own dog. She seeps a cool 12 hours a day. I know this because I did

When we mention lazy dogs, we are referring to their lifestyle as well as their level of exercise needed to maintain them.

Lifestyle

If your dog is constantly lazing around with not much interaction with people, they tend to be lazier and hence requires more sleep than other dogs. When we say “requires”, this is actually because they have nothing better to do at home. This can be particularly dangerous for the dogs as they will simply while their life away. Dogs are very much like humans. I have seen, and known, of people who simply while their time away. Hence, it will be good if you can keep your dog active just by introducing interactive dog toys to them. By keeping their mind active, they will not sleep as much as others!

Level Of Exercise

If your dog exercises a lot, chances are they that will lesser than the lazy dogs. This is especially so for breeds such as Shetland sheepdog as they are known as working dogs. This is because such dogs need their senses to be at the tip top condition, henceforth they can’t afford to sleep as much as the lazy dogs. This is actually good for the dogs, as it builds up their mental and physical health.

Medical Reasons

Last but not least, if your dog is sleeping much more than usual, it can be an indication that they are unhealthy. When this happens, do send your dog to the vet as soon as possible.

There are many diseases related reasons at which why my dog is able to sleep all day. One of the possible medical condition that your dog might have is that might they diabetes. One of the symptom of your dog having diabetes is that they can be extremely lethargic. Hence this is why your dog sleep so much.

There is also another medical condition that you might want to be aware of, is that hypothyroidism can also cause extreme lethargic in your dog.
