Initially, we wanted to write an article about things to do with dogs during Summer. But after writing the article How To Keep Dogs Cool In The Summer, it made us think twice about bringing them out for activities during the hotter days of the year. It dawned on us that in fact we have many ideas for fun things to do with the dogs during Spring time. Here then are the Top 10 Fun Things To Do With Your Dog In Spring.

Picnic

Yes, you read it right. The number one activity that we like to do with our dogs during spring is to bring them out for picnics. During these fun filled picnics, we will usually pack a few sandwiches, salads and light refreshments for ourselves. As for the dogs, I will bring along their favorite toy as well as some treats and water for them. Do take note the bringing water for them is kinda mandatory, at least for me. Some of you might want to set up a wireless dog fence for them. You can also opt to provide with them a mat for them to lay on, in case your dog is sensitive to laying on the grass.

Road Trip With Your Dog

I am quite an outdoor person, hence my dogs have no choice but to follow me on my expeditions. It is pretty similar to bringing them out for picnics, just that the main difference now is that the dogs will ride in my car or on my bike with me. I would prefer the car, as it means the ride can be more enjoyable for them. It is pretty satisfying to see your dog peeking out of the window and letting the wind blow onto their faces.

For this mini expedition, you might need some careful planning. This includes if you intend to stay out, or it is just a round trip back to your own house in a day. Once you determine this, you then might want to look into the dog’s refreshments.

Camping

It can be pretty fun camping with your dog too. I love to do this once in a while, so that my dogs can really enjoy sleeping under the stars. My take is that dogs are originally not born in captivity. They have the sense and the natural inclination to run in the wild. They are highly adaptable, and hence I figured that it will be good for them to roam in the wild while during on such camping trips. It can really revitalize their otherwise really mundane lifestyle.

For camping with your dogs, do remember to make extra care when planning for it. I will always prepare a few days of extra ration for both the dog and me. This is in case there are emergencies and I am forced to stay outdoors for a few more days. Also, bring along a good camping tent that can accommodate both you and your dog.

Exercising

During the colder and hotter days of the year, it can be forgiven that your dog didn’t exercise much. However, during spring, you should let your dog loose! By this, I mean taking your dog out for a run or walk. This can do your dog and yourself a great deal of favor. It is a fun activity for both you and your dog. It is also the perfect time for the entire team to bond together.

Beach Time

During Spring, it can be the perfect time for you to bring your dog to the beach. To those who live without a beach nearby, you can always opt for the public pools that are dog friendly. Or you can always buy a portable pool for your dog. Ok back to the privileged folks who live near the beach. Yes, I am quite lucky that I live just a couple of hours drive from the nearest beach. You can literally hear my dogs while the entire journey in the car once they know that we are heading to the beach itself. I wonder how they know. Your dogs will no doubt me dirty after that, with all the sand in their fur. Try to give them a good wash down before you place them back in the car. Usually, if I am lazy, I will place them in the rear of the car, with a pet barrier that separates the front from the back. In this way, even if the car is dirty, I am limiting the damage to just one small portion of it.

Backpacking

Who says that dogs can’t go backpacking too? Being an outdoor person, I do my regular hikes in the country side from time to time. I tried bringing one of my dogs along with me once, and It was really not as daunting as some people said it will be. All I got to do, is to plan my route well, ensure that there is enough ration for us, and we are good to go! Of course, I do bring along a harness and leash, just in case the dog decides to run after the random rabbit. But having said that, bringing a dog along with me saved me on a particular occasion. While backpacking, this random wild dog came running to my direction. Luckily. my agile dog noticed it away before me, and he came to my defense. Good boy!

Play Frisbee

This is one of my favorite activities with the dog too. I love to see how high the dog can jump while chasing after the Frisbee. Also, seeing them run wild is also a joy to me. This is a simple activity and you just require a dog friendly Frisbee, and you are good to go!

Dog Parks

There are some parks that allows dogs to run freely. Sometimes, these are called the dog pen. Usually, these dog parks are heavily fence, hence you wouldn’t need to worry about your dog running away from you. Do note that in these parks, there are a few important rules that you would need to follow. Not that you will be caught by the police if you do not follow the rules. Rather, we should abide by the rules and regulation of the park as it is a communal place.

Dog Agility Training

Of course, during Spring, it is the optimal time for you to bring your dog for some agility training! During this training, your dog will be able to flex their muscles and at the same time they will have fun too. There are various dog training companies out there, so you might want to take your pick to see which one suits your dog’s needs. It is really fun to see your dog weaving through the various obstacles. You can send them for competitions too!

Dog Cafe

Last but not least, we have the dog cafes! This is one of the upcoming trends. In these dog cafes, you can bring your dog in, and they can have food that is specially catered for your dog. Check out your local listings for one such dog cafe right now!
